Dogecoin Labs brings MyDoge, DogeOS and Such App together

Dogecoin Labs formed on Oct. 21 with the Dogecoin Foundation, bringing MyDoge, DogeOS and Such App under one organization to build consumer apps and payment tools for DOGE, according to the launch announcement from DogeOS. Jordan Jefferson, founder of MyDoge and DogeOS, will lead the new organization as CEO.

The announcement says Labs will own and operate the three products, with intellectual property and development teams contributed by the Dogecoin Foundation and House of Doge. The Foundation will continue its stewardship, open-source development support, advocacy and community work, while Labs focuses on products and commercial opportunities.

What products will Dogecoin Labs bring together?

MyDoge is the wallet and consumer platform, DogeOS is an application layer for developers, and Such App provides merchant payment tools. The combination is intended to connect developers building applications with DOGE holders and businesses that accept the coin, CoinDesk reported.

MyDoge said it had more than 500,000 users and that its V3 update connects the wallet to applications being built on DogeOS. Such App’s beta supports invoicing and in-person QR payments, according to the announcement; its planned connection to DogeOS is not yet live.

What can developers build on DogeOS now?

DogeOS opened a public testnet on Sept. 30, giving developers an EVM-compatible environment to build and test applications, the announcement said. The testnet is for development; the launch materials did not give a mainnet date.

The structure puts an existing wallet, developer infrastructure and merchant payment tools within one organization. Dogecoin Labs says it aims to bring DOGE into consumer applications, payments, commerce, trading, decentralized finance and gaming; those are stated areas of work, not reported adoption results.

What role will the Dogecoin Foundation keep?

The Foundation will remain responsible for ecosystem stewardship and support for open-source development, according to the announcement. Dogecoin Labs will focus on bringing products and applications to market, while working with the Foundation.
