TeleSwap’s Bitcoin bridge trades custody control for verification
TeleSwap verifies Bitcoin deposits on-chain, but wraps take 40–60 minutes and add locker and network fees, after reported $735,000 outflows.

TeleSwap’s published CLI documentation says a BTC wrap takes four Bitcoin confirmations and typically 40–60 minutes. That wait reflects its verification process; the quote also includes fees that vary by route and transaction.
How does TeleSwap custody BTC?
TeleSwap locks BTC with collateralized Lockers and issues teleBTC, a wrapped token used on supported EVM chains. Its design uses an on-chain Bitcoin light client to verify Bitcoin transactions, while Teleporters relay proofs to the EVM contracts.
That differs from a custodial bridge that relies on an operator to confirm deposits and hold the backing BTC. The light client reduces reliance on an operator’s word, but the Locker still controls the Bitcoin being held. TeleSwap’s published project information is available at teleswap.net.
What does a TeleSwap transfer cost?
There is no single flat fee to compare across routes. TeleSwap’s quote breaks costs into categories, and its protocol information lists Locker and protocol fees on wraps and unwraps, plus a Bitcoin network fee for the payout transaction when BTC is withdrawn.
- Wrap: Check the Bitcoin network fee and any Locker or protocol charge.
- Unwrap: Include the Bitcoin payout fee as well as bridge charges.
- Cross-chain route: Check the destination chain and any additional swap or bridge leg in the quote.
The fee breakdown matters more than a headline rate: Bitcoin fees change with network demand, and the destination may add another transaction. Compare the live quote with the amount you expect to receive, not just the fee percentage.
Is TeleSwap faster than other Bitcoin bridges?
Its documented wrap flow is not near-instant: four confirmations and proof submission put the typical wait at 40–60 minutes, with Bitcoin block timing able to vary. Bridges that rely on an operator’s confirmation can offer a quicker experience, but that speed comes with a different custody and trust model.
There is also a reported security incident to factor into any comparison. SlowMist’s incident tracker records suspected TeleSwap outflows of more than $735,000 from a Bitcoin hot wallet on July 15, 2026; it lists the attack method as unknown. Before using the bridge, check its current operating status and quote, and weigh the light-client verification against Locker and hot-wallet risks.
