Samsung Electronics America said on Oct. 7 that Samsung Wallet will add USDC transfers for eligible U.S. Galaxy users in the last week of October, extending the service to 82 million compatible devices. The feature will let users send stablecoins abroad or route funds to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, according to Samsung’s announcement.
How will Galaxy users send money abroad?
Users will be able to send USDC from Samsung Wallet to compatible crypto wallets internationally, or to eligible bank accounts that receive local currency. Samsung says it will charge no fee for transfers to external wallets, though recipient wallet providers or exchanges may charge fees.
Bank transfers carry fees that vary by destination and amount; Samsung says the app will show the fee and estimated delivery time before confirmation. Recipients do not need a crypto wallet for bank payouts, but eligible banks and account types vary.
Who will operate the service and which networks will it use?
Bastion will provide the stablecoin payment framework, while Coinbase will act as sub-custodian and secure USDC through Coinbase Prime Vault, Samsung said. Solana and Sui are among the partners providing infrastructure and blockchain network support.
Users will need to register and verify their identity, and transfers require biometric authentication on a registered device. Samsung says the service will be available to eligible U.S. residents aged 18 or older on compatible devices running Android 13 or later.
What is confirmed about the rollout?
The October launch is limited to eligible U.S. users; Samsung has not announced a date for expansion to other markets. CoinDesk’s report on the rollout also notes that future availability will depend on local regulation.
